The only way to get $15K, $20K, $40k for your 1990-1996 300ZX is to pay for a stated value or agreed value policy. Showing receipts for purchased parts, ads of comparable cars for sale and downright begging will only get you a few K. Here is my previous experience: First insurance offered me something ridiculous like $8200 AND they take the car. Or they said I could keep it and take $2200 off what they give me. So I laughed and told them to pump up the jam like Technotronic. I had the adjuster come out again, and pointed out the attention to detail of my car and its upkeep/repairs. That, compiled with 30+ pages of receipts for parts and maintenance records (totaling ~ $18K over 5 years... never add it up), and Autotrader ads for similarly equipped and mileage cars, was enough for him to bump the offer up to $11,565. After consulting a lawyer, and determining I waited far too long (6 weeks) for any personal injury claim, I gave in to the insurance company. I took the $11,565 + 5% for sales tax - $2200 for keeping my car = $9943.25 That’s the synopsis. Moral of the story: If you get rear-ended, see a doctor even if there is no pain, call a lawyer for a free consultation WITHIN A WEEK OF ACCIDENT. Thank me later.
